The Yummy Pomegranate

This month I have decided to highlight the pomegranate, a delicacy which is both anti-viral and high in Vitamins A, C and E.  Pomegranates are a lovely winter fruit packed with antioxidants that help lower LDL cholesterol, high blood pressure and risks of cancer Antioxidants also negate the effects of free radical damage to your cells caused by oxidation. Since oxidation occurs naturally and daily, by breaking down food or physical activity, it is important to consume foods that help to balance their damage. Pomegranates will keep you healthy and YOUTHFUL!

Vitamin A

Vitamins are broken down into two categories water-soluble and fat-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins can be toxic if taken in extreme quantities, and include Vitamins A, D, E and  K. On the other hand, any unneeded water-soluble vitamins are emptied by the body. Examples of water soluble vitamins include, Vitamins B and C.

Vitamin A, fat-soluble
Vitamin A is an antioxidant that protects against cancer, strengthens teeth and bones, prevents night blindness, and is used when generating new cells. Vitamin A is also known to fight infections, enhance the immune system, and slow down the aging process.
Vitamin A rich foods:  Pomegranate, cantaloupe, sweet potato, squash, hot spices, and  leafy greens.
