The Dangers of Sulfates (SLES/SLS)

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are two of the most deadly substances found in everyday products that we use on our bodies (shampoos, gels, conditioners, face cleaners, etc.) SLS is used to degrease car engines and is also used in products we put directly on our skin. SLES is a more moderate form of SLS but even more dangerous as our liver cannot metabolize this substance and it therefore stays in our body (tissues) longer. Both of these chemicals are corrosive and eat away grease- which is why it is in products that lather into a foam. BEWARE!! These sulfates cause hair loss, male infertility and breast cancer. The scariest damage has taken its toll on our children. Read more...

SLS/SLES has been proven to:
*penetrate into the brain, heart and liver while exposing long-term retention in the tissues.
*penetrate into children's eyes- causing developmental damage and has led to cataracts in adults. (Study at the University of Georgia, Medical Center.)
And because SLS/SLES reacts with many ingredients found in skin/hair products- it causes nitrates which are potential cancer-causing carcinogenics.
The scariest part regarding these chemicals are that most of the effects are IRREVERSIBLE. Johnson and Johnson's baby products have these ingredients as well as Pantene and most other mainstream hair/body care brand names. All it takes is good marketing to make these products appeal to you! Protect yourself and your family. Take action today!
First) Please take a look at your cosmetic/household products and you will find that most everything in our homes if full of chemicals we can not even pronounce. Look for SLS and SLES and red-flag these products. Then ask yourself what you are willing to do with these "dirty" products.
What I did was take one product at a time and find a good substitute for it. The first week it was hand soap throughout the home, the next shampoos and then shower gels. Every little bit counts so even if you switch one of your products you have made a positive commitment to your health.
Second) Educate yourself more by clicking on the link below or researching more about this topic on the internet. We have a saying that "Ignorance is bliss," so turn this ignorance into intelligence and keep the bliss by knowing you are gifting yourself and your loved ones with better health. They will thank you for it; YOU will thank you for it :)
